Locals earn USM honor

\The University of Southern Mississippi has released its President’s and Dean’s Lists for the 2025 spring semester.

The President’s List includes full-time students who earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Dean’s List scholars are those with at least a 3.5 grade point average, but less than a 4.0.

The future for Yazoo City native DeAngelo Brown appeared bright and wide-open for his determined spirit. The accomplished musician had already made a name for himself at Jackson State University, where he played trumpet for the Sonic Boom of the South Marching Band and Tiger P.R.I.D.E. Connection.

Suspect charged with murder in woman’s death

A suspect has been charged with murder in connection to the discovery of a woman’s body found in Yazoo City earlier this month.

The body of Stacy Lynn Walker, 40, was found around noon on Oct. 2 in the Rialto Road area in Yazoo City, according to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations.

Three suspects charged in connection to deadly shooting

Three arrests have been made in connection to Yazoo City’s most recent deadly shooting, including one suspect charged with murder.

Johnathan Townsend was charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of Abieon Earl Taylor.
