He is survived by his parents,John Miller Spivey and Olga Thompson Spivey; his brother, Daniel Starr Spivey, II; and his sister, Olga Wright Spivey. Gray is preceded in death by his brother, Miller Spivey; and his grandfathers, Lloyd Gilmer Spivey, Jr. and William Puffer Thompson, Sr. Gray’s grandmothers, Mary Smith “Ebbie” Spivey and Rebecca Allen Thompson, and a host of his aunts, uncles, and cousins remain to celebrate and carry forth the memory of his life.
Gray was born in Oxford, Mississippi but grew up in Jackson where he made lifelong friends and created some of his most cherished memories. After graduating from high school Gray began his own, unique path in life. Gray attended the National Outdoor Leadership School in 2011. After successfully completing that program he worked for Vail Resorts in Breckenridge, Colorado. He later spent time in Utah, Dallas, and Telluride before settling in Nashville, Tennessee.
Gray played tennis beautifully. He rode dirt bikes fearlessly. He snowboarded with untamed joy and played ping pong like a ninja. He never saw an adventure he didn’t like. In the last years of his life Gray rekindled his spiritual peace in Christ and was always eager to share it with whoever would listen. Gray fought the battle of addiction for most of his adult life. On Friday his final battle ended, and he left this world a warrior.
Until we see you again, my son, rest easy…your battles are over…the war is won. Lift high the cross!
There will be a private memorial service held for Gray in the coming days in New Orleans, Louisiana for immediate family members.
