Earlier this year, colleges in no income tax states used that as a selling point when trying to snag players in the transfer portal. Mississippi lawmakers say the Magnolia State needs to remain competitive in that arena.
In this new era of college football so heavily focused on the almighty dollar, schools in states with no income tax have sought to use that to their benefit when recruiting players.

Delta State University congratulates students named to the fall 2025 President's List. These students achieved a 3.80 or better GPA, based on a 4.0 scale, while completing at least 12 semester hours of coursework with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C.
Local students include Shelby Allen, of Bentonia, a Health Care Administration major; and Elizabeth Carpenter, of Yazoo City, a Accountancy major.

Another bill that would have allowed terminally ill patients to use medical cannabis gummies while being treated in a hospital did not pass the Senate Public Health Committee this week.

Local students include Delancy Anderson, of Yazoo City, in the Pharm.D. program; Destiny Bush, of Yazoo City, in the B.S.B.E. in Biomedical Engineering program; Kinley Goodson, of Bentonia, in the B.Accy. in Accountancy program; and Jamya Ellis, of Bentonia, in the B.A. in Allied Health Studies program. All students on the Chancellor's Honor Roll earned a semester GPA of 3.75-4.00.

An excellent medical column in The Washington Post predicts the next target in Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s anti-vaccine campaign. At the same time, the column debunks the claim that this target is hazardous to children’s health.
Dr. Leana S. Wen, an emergency physician and clinical associate professor at George Washington University, believes Kennedy, the Health and Human Services secretary, may seek the removal of “aluminum salts” from vaccines. He claims this ingredient can cause conditions from autism to asthma to food allergies.

The Delta Regional Authority recently concluded Fiscal Year 2025 with an investment of nearly $17 million to support 11 critical infrastructure projects across the region, including the Public Service Commission of Yazoo City.
Provided through the Community Infrastructure Fund, this funding program is designed to address unmet basic public infrastructure, transportation infrastructure and flood control needs for DRA communities within the lower Mississippi Delta and Alabama Black Belt regions.

Monthly, semi-monthly or biweekly? Those were the questions asked during a recent county board meeting concerning the payroll payment schedule for Yazoo County deputies.
Sheriff Jeremy McCoy said he is on the verge of losing deputies based on the current model. But County Administrator Donna Kraft said the payroll schedule currently being used offers less confusion with processing.

City leaders will be issuing a Request for Proposals to solicit outside assistance with the public works department’s efforts to clean up the debris left behind within Yazoo City from the winter storm last month.
Yazoo County took a similar approach in early February with its deadline for proposals being tomorrow.
“I want to state for the public and for the record that the second day after this (storm) happened, I was talking about issuing RFPs,” said Mayor David Starling. “And I was told that we shouldn’t do it. With that being said, we will get an RFP issued.”
