Three suspects remain in custody at the Yazoo City Police Department following a shooting that left two victims with non-life-threatening wounds.
As of press time, Police Chief Terry Gann said he would not like to release the identities of the three suspects because his department is expecting more arrests.
The shooting occurred on Jan. 3 on North Ward Street in Yazoo City.
“Upon arriving at the scene, we discovered two victims with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds,” Gann said. “The victims were transported to the hospital, and our investigation led us to placing three suspects in custody.”
Gann said the motive for the shooting remains unknown.
In other police news, the timing was perfect for officers who recently received a Layperson Naloxone (NARCAN) training course, designed to teach officers how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and administer the opioid overdose reversal drug Naloxone.
Gann said he applauds the response from officer Laron Simpson, who responded to a possible overdose on Jan. 2 in the Madison and Monroe area.
“Officer Simpson was able to use the NARCAN training to help save the life of female who had overdosed,” Gann said. “Thank God we had just received that training because Officer Simpson used it to save a life.”
