Saturday was named Roosevelt “Bo Sack” Stewart Day in Yazoo City in honor of a Yazoo basketball legend.
The Mayor and Board of Aldermen presented Stewart with a proclamation naming Aug. 19 in his honor and recognizing his accomplishments, and the Yazoo Youth Basketball League named its annual All-Star Game in his honor.
Stewart’s performance on the court at N.D. Taylor High School is still remembered today. He was a star player from his eighth grade year until he graduated in 1969.
Stewart then went on to play at Alcorn, where he was known as the “Bo Show” and recognized throughout the SWAC for his skills.
Roosevelt was a top player until an injury ended his career.
