Yazoo County 4-H member Kali Cotten of Yazoo City has been selected to attend the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 24 through 28, 2017. Delegates to the National 4-H are selected through competitions and other means within their respective state 4-H programs. Kali was awarded this trip after receiving first place for her Agriculture Record Book, which recorded her experiences in her Agriculture 4-H project; these experiences included working with horses, lambs, small animals and gardening.
The history of the National 4-H Congress goes back nearly a hundred years. An educational tour to Chicago was the forerunner to what would eventually become known as National 4-H Congress. This annual tour was held in the Union Stock Yards in Chicago during the International Livestock Exposition. There, over 100 young men and women met to exchange ideas and receive recognition for individual accomplishments and community service.
Since that time, the National 4-H Congress has become a premier nation-wide opportunity for 4-H members across America. The event is now held in the “Capitol of the South,” Atlanta, Georgia, during the Thanksgiving break. The National 4-H Congress is a five-day event that engages high-school-aged 4-H members in leadership, citizenship, global awareness, and inclusion.
Participants not only have the opportunity to participate in state-of-the-art educational workshops and hear from world-renowned speakers, they also have the opportunity to network with other 4-H members from across the United States.
Yazoo County 4-H congratulates Kali on earning the opportunity to attend this distinguished event.
