Yazoo County High’s baseball team took a big step forward in the conference standings with a sweep of Velma Jackson in a doubleheader on Tuesday to go to 4-1 in the conference.
The star of the game was Jamari Brown, who hit three home runs in two games.
Yazoo County head baseball coach Corbin Ellis believes the games will allow him to get some younger guys some playing time.
“I would say that Jamari's bat came to life tonight,” Ellis said. “Three HRs is a pretty good night and was seeing the ball well. There was no doubt about all three. As soon as they left the bat you knew they were gone. This moves us to 4-1 in the district and allowed us to keep pace for that district title. We got to let some younger guys get experience on the mound that could help us in the stretch run.”
In game number one, the Panthers outscored Velma Jackson 15-2 with the help of a 10-run third inning.
