A year after falling to Terry in the final inning of a softball game, Yazoo County finally had their revenge with 7-6 walk-off victory.
The Lady Panthers came out in the bottom of the first inning and took a 3-0 lead.
After a scoreless second inning, Terry finally got on the board with a run to cut the lead to 3-1.
The fourth inning came and went with little action, but in the top of the fifth inning, Terry came back and tied things up at 3-3.
Terry made a move in the top of the sixth inning by scoring two more runs to take a 5-3 lead, their first lead of the game.
It seemed for a minute like Terry would sneak out of Yazoo with another late inning win, but the Lady Panthers were resilient. They came back and regained a 6-5 lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Terry tied things up with a run in the top of the seventh to make it 6-6.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Shelby Scott led things off with a walk for Yazoo.
After a Keely Davis sacrifice bunt and a couple of bad throws by Terry, Scott came home to score, giving the Lady Panthers a 7-6 win.
Yazoo County softball coach Grant Andrews was thrilled to see his team finish a game after coming up short so many times before.
“We came up short against Ethel and Cleveland, but this time we took care of business in the early part of the game, and at the end, we came together and finished the game,” Andrews said. “Overall, we played a pretty solid game, and that’s why we came out on top.”
The Lady Panthers will face rival Yazoo City High on Tuesday night at 5 p.m. at Yazoo City High.
