Manchester Academy’s baseball season ended on a good note on Friday after they defeated Hartfield Academy twice in a doubleheader.
The offense and defense for Manchester were both on full display in the doubleheader, as they prize at hand was pride, a motivating factor.
In the top of the first inning, the Mavericks were able to score one run to take a 1-0 lead.
The Mavs added three runs in the top of the second inning to help cushion their lead, extending it to 4-0.
After a scoreless third inning, Manchester scored three runs in the top of the fourth and five in the top of the fifth to bring the final score to 12-0.
Manchester scored 12 runs on 13 hits and committed no errors.
Will Fouche earned the win on the mound after throwing a complete game shutout, giving up only one hit to go with two walks and six strikeouts.
Fouche also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Blayke Dendy had a huge game in the win over Hartfield at the plate. He went 2-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs.
In the season finale, the Mavericks kept the momentum going.
Manchester put up four runs in the top of the first inning to give them an early 4-0 lead.
The Mavericks put up one run in the top of the second inning and a run in the top of the third inning, pushing their lead to 6-0.
Hartfield sparked for a moment in the bottom of the third inning when they scored a run to cut the lead to 6-1, but their offense dissipated as quickly as it appeared.
Manchester recorded another run in the top of the fourth and four in the top of the sixth to end the game at 11-1.
The Mavericks scored 11 runs on nine hits with one recorded error.
Lake Clay earned the win on the mound after giving up one earned run on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
Blayke Dendy was, once again, a monster in the win. He went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a walk, four RBIs and three runs scored.
Dendy also earned the save in the win on the mound after throwing a shutout inning with one walk and two strikeouts.
Shumpert Kirksey had a 1-for-4 day at the plate with two RBIs.
Senior Brett Williamson went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and two runs scored.
Rainer Roberts and Will Fouche each had an RBI in the final win of the year for the Mavericks.
The Mavericks ended the season with a 14-11 record overall and an 8-7 record in the district.
