Yazoo County’s Lady Panthers swept McLaurin on Thursday and fell to Morton on Monday to improve to 11-3 on the season.
The first of the two McLaurin games began with an early 1-0 lead for the Lady Tigers, but the Lady Panthers stormed back with five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-1 lead.
After a scoreless second inning, Yazoo County put the game away with 11 runs in the bottom of the third to take the game 16-1.
Game number two was much of the same.
The Lady Panthers pieced together hits and runs by the barrel to take the game 11-1.
The sweep of McLaurin locked up a playoff spot for the Lady Panthers.
Yazoo County faced a much tougher opponent on Monday night in Morton.
To make things worse, it was a sloppy game for the Lady Panthers.
Despite scoring four runs early, the Lady Panthers committed nine errors, which led to 10 runs, putting Yazoo County in a 10-4 deficit.
Morton added seven more runs to that deficit to take the game 17-4, bringing Yazoo County’s district record down to 5-1.
The Lady Panthers return to the diamond on Thursday when they host St. Andrews.
The game is an important one for seeding purposes.
If Yazoo County successfully takes the game, they will secure second place in the district. The first pitch for the game is set for 6 p.m.
The Lady Panthers will finish the regular season with a home game against Ridgeland on Monday and a road trip to Morton on Tuesday.
