After dropping a pair of games to Pelahatchie, Yazoo County’s Lady Panthers are back to their tinning ways after disposing of Raymond and St. Andrews this past week.
In the first game against Raymond, it was all Yazoo County all night.
The Lady Panthers stormed in and defeated Raymond 12-2.
They followed the win up with a game against St. Andrews, a contest that would be much closer.
St. Andrews went up 2-1 early and took that lead into the fifth inning.
In the top of the fifth inning, Alex Carter hit a double with one out, which was followed by a Destiny Epps single and an Ann Marie Jones HBP to load the bases.
Marlana Taylor tied things up at 2-2 with a sac groundout, and Tailyn Esco hit a single to drive home two more runs, making it a 4-2 game.
Destiny Epps extended the Lady Panthers’ lead by driving in two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to bring the score to 6-2.
St. Andrews would not go quietly into the night.
They scored two runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 6-4.
A Marlana Taylor single set up a Tailyn Esco RBI double in the seventh inning to push Yazoo County’s lead to 7-4.
St. Andrews scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough.
Yazoo County won the game 7-5.
Defeating St. Andrews moved the Lady Panthers to 3-0 in the district thus far.
Yazoo County head coach Grant Andrews was happy with his team’s ability to finish off opponents.
“I was proud to see the team finish the game with a lead,” Andrews said. “I emphasized in practice that we needed to finish games and not get comfortable with a lead. The girls responded well. The win made up 9-2 on the season.”
The Lady Panthers will return to action on Thursday when they host McLaurin at 5 p.m.
