The Lady Panthers of Yazoo County returned to the softball diamond from Spring Break with an 18-2 blitzing of St. Joe.
Yazoo County head softball coach Grant Andrews was pleased to see his team come out hot after the lengthy break.
“After being off a week for Spring Break, it was great to come back with a win,” Andrews said. “We pitched and played defense well. Overall, it was a great day.”
The Lady Panthers took the fight to St. Joe early in the contest.
They scored an incredible eight runs in the first inning to take a massive 8-0 lead.
After another scoreless top of the second inning, Marlana Taylor was able to round the bases to give Yazoo County a 9-0 lead.
St. Joe finally showed a bit of life in the top of the third inning.
The Lady Bruins put together a few hits and were able to manufacture two runs to cut the Lady Panthers’ lead to 9-2.
But Yazoo County responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own to extend their lead to 11-2.
The Lady Panthers came out in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored seven runs to make the final score 18-2.
Erica Carson earned the win on the mound after giving up two runs with three strikeouts.
Deja Moore and Savanna Ellet each had multiple hits in the win.
Yazoo County High School will face Terry High School in a road contest on Friday night.
The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
