Yazoo City High split a pair of baseball games over the weekend at the At-Home Care Classic at Provine High School to bring their overall record to 3-7.
In game number one of the tournament, the Indians were pitted against Provine, the home team.
The home team took a slight lead with a run in the top of the first inning.
But the Indians struck back in the bottom of the second inning with a run of their own, tying things up at 1-1.
Provine came back in the top of the third inning and scored two big runs to regain a 3-1 lead.
Once again, however, Yazoo City was resilient. They put together some hits and were able to scrap together two more runs to tie things up once again at 3-3.
Due to the time constraints of the tournament, the game was limited to only five innings, and with a tied game heading into it, the game would be determined in dramatic fashion.
The Rams struck in the top of that fifth inning with a run to take a 4-3 lead, giving Yazoo City one final chance to regain the lead.
Unfortunately for the Indians, they were not able to come up with timely hits, and 4-3 proved to be the final score.
The Indians racked up five hits as a team in the loss.
Jeremiah Durr was impressive on the mound for Yazoo City despite the loss. He pitched all five innings, giving up four runs (2 ER) on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Kory Price went 2-for-2 with two singles and two runs scored.
Jacques Gates, Javarious Grady, and Jacques Grady each had an RBI in the loss. Gates also scored a run.
Yazoo City found redemption in the second game of the evening against Port Gibson.
The Blue Wave struck first in the contest with a run in the top of the first inning, but the Indians tied things back up with a run in the bottom of the first, making it a 1-1 game.
The Indians took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second inning when they put up a run to bring the score to 2-1.
After a scoreless third inning, Yazoo City extended their lead to a commanding 5-1 after scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Port Gibson had one last opportunity to tie the game or regain the lead in the top of the fifth, but they were only able to score one run, making the final 5-2.
Yazoo City High scored five runs on eight hits.
Cordarious Brown earned the win on the mound for Yazoo City after giving up two earned runs in five innings on two hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Leslie Nelson went 2-for-2 with two singles and two runs scored in the win.
Jacques Gates and Jacques Grady each went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
Darius Taylor went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the victory.
