After thrashing St. Joe 27-4 on Thursday, Manchester Academy’s Mavericks returned to action on Monday with a 4-2 loss to Hartfield Academy.
The two different outcomes brought Manchester’s overall record to 11-5 and their district record to 4-2.
On Thursday, the Mavericks found themselves in a game that was over almost as quickly as it began.
Against St. Joe, Manchester scored eight runs in the first inning to give them an early 8-0 lead.
Early in the third inning, the Mavericks had extended their lead to a whopping 18-0.
But they weren’t done there.
Manchester continued to pour it to the Fighting Irish, and by the time the disaster of an inning was over, Manchester led 27-0.
St. Joe came out fighting in the bottom half of the inning and managed to score four runs, but it was far too little.
Manchester took the game 27-4.
Things were far tighter when Hartfield came to town on Monday night.
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Mavs finally got on the board in the bottom of the third inning with a Tyler Reynolds RBI, making it a 1-0 game.
The Hawks came back in the fourth and pieced together three runs to take a 3-1 lead in the game.
Hartfield came back in the fifth and tacked on another run, extending their lead to 4-1, but Manchester struck back with a run of their own to cut the lead to 4-2.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Rainer Roberts was hit by a pitch to give the Mavs a baserunner.
After a strikeout, Blayke Dendy stepped up to the plate and hit a double to put the tying run on second.
Unfortunately, the Mavs were unable to bring him home.
They fell 4-2.
