As the paperwork for the multi-million-dollar public housing project nears completion, one more property has been added to the massive renovation project.
Barry Bridgforth, attorney for the Yazoo City Housing Authority, announced to the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors that Windsor Apartments has been added to the $43 million-dollar Rental Assistance Demonstration program. The complete list of properties that will undergo major renovation include Delta Circle, Fouche Apartments, Lindsey Lawn Apartments, Woolwine and now Windsor, formerly known as Graystone Apartments.
In the RAD project, there will be a total of 268 units involved. All properties will be owned and managed by the Yazoo City Housing Authority.
“It’s going to be a great project,” said Supervisor Cobie Collins.
Bridgforth said the total project is estimated to cost about $43 million dollars. However, only $23 million of that overall cost will be dedicated to actual construction. The remaining $23 million dollars will go toward administrative costs, including lawyers, engineers, architects, environmentalists and so forth.
In terms of the relationship between the Housing Authority and the Gateway Development, Bridgforth said “it’s working.”
“We are resolving things daily, but it is still working,” he said. “There are still issues we are cleaning up.”
Bridgforth also added that the project will be geared towards hiring local contractors and workers.
