Newly elected Yazoo County Tax Collector Tommy Irvine is pushing ahead with preparing his office for the upcoming tax season.
Although he still plans to attend training, Irvine said he is ready to take on his new post for the county.
“What you are going through now is the growing pains,” said Supervisor Jayne Dew. “That is just part of it. But it will get there. The public does not understand the growing pains. If we can make a better transition, it will be for the better.”
The Yazoo County Board of Supervisors approved hiring a part-time employee for the next 60 days to assist Irvine in the office during a busy time of the tax year.
“We can’t ever have enough staff to cut the wait entirely out, but this will help,” Irvine said.
Irvine also told the county board he would like to keep their relationship professional and courteous.
“We won’t always agree on everything, but I will still have the utmost respect for everybody,” Irvine said. “This is business. That is all it will ever be, business. There will be nothing I take or take out on personally.”
