Voters will head to the polls this November for a number of elections, including races for local offices and senate and judge posts.
Locally, voters will determine the next county court judge and tax collector. With no opposition, the race for Chancery Court judges, Circuit Court judge and Yazoo County School District Board members will also appear on the ballot.
After the retirement of former Yazoo County Tax Collector Travis Crimm, three candidates are vying for the post. Democrats Tommy Irvine Sr., Dewel Ladner and Ashley Tyson Saxton qualified to run for the seat.
County judge candidates include Mary Cotton and Derek Parker.
Also within judges’ posts, Robert Clark is running for Chancery Court, District 11-1, and James Walker, District 11. Both seats are unopposed. For Circuit Court, District 21, Jannie Lewis-Blackmon is also running unopposed.
Incumbent board members Patsy Burrough and Greg Moseley will also run unopposed for their seats on the Yazoo County School District Board.
For United States Senate, candidates include Democrat David Baria, Republican Roger Wicker, Libertarian Danny Bedwell and Reform Shawn O’Hara.
The race for the United States House of Representatives, 2nd Congressional District, Democrat Bennie Thompson will run to keep his post again Reform candidate Irving Harris and Independent Troy Ray.
For the special election in the Senate, candidates Tobey Bartee, Mike Espy, Cindy Hyde-Smith and Chris McDaniel will be vying for the seat.
For Court of Appeals, District 2, candidates Eric Hawkins, Ceola James and Deborah McDonald will be vying for the post.
The general election will be held on Nov. 6.
