Two Yazoo City men received additional charges after threatening police officers and a municipal judge during their initial appearances on separate previous felony charges.
Walter Anfield Sr., of 404 Webster St., was charged with disorderly conduct and simple assault on a police officer during his initial court appearance last Wednesday.
Anfield was previously charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle after he allegedly drove over another man in his vehicle and assaulting him during the altercation earlier this month.
Capt. Tilmon Clifton, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said Anfield was being prepared for his initial appearance on those previous felony charges when the latest incident occurred.
“Upon preparing him for court, Anfield assaulted an officer by striking him,” Clifton said. “He then received a new charge for assault on an officer in the line of duty, which is considered a felony.”
Floyd Woods Jr. was also charged with assault by threatening after he made threats against both a municipal court judge and a police officer during his initial appearance.
Woods was previously charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.
“While in the courtroom, Woods threatened the municipal court judge,” Clifton said. “He attempted to act out the threat. While being taken back to his cell, he also threatened a police officer in a manner in which he attempted to act out the threat.”
Clifton said Woods’ case was transferred to the Yazoo County Justice Court.
