A city school board trustee said he would still like updates surrounding last year’s burglary of the district’s central office.
Trustee Dave Collins asked for an update in the case that led to the arrest of two men after they allegedly stole three computers from the Yazoo City Municipal School District office.
“It is in the hands of the court and the local police officers,” replied Interim Superintendent Lucille Lovette. “Hopefully, we will be able to share more information. But we feel they got the main people.”
A burglary at the Yazoo City Municipal School District office on Calhoun Avenue was reported on Nov. 29. Detectives discovered that three computers were taken from the administrative building.
Two arrests were made shortly after the incident. Steve Hollins was charged with burglary of a commercial business. And Glenn Parker was charged with felony possession of stolen property.
Collins expressed concerns in the past about school board members not being informed about break-in.
During last week’s school board meeting, Collins said he would still like to be updated about the case.
“Once the men were arrested, everything was left in the hands of the court,” Lovette said. “We have pressed charges, and that is as far as we have to go.”
“And there was absolutely no breach of security,” Lovette added. “We ended up getting the computers back within three days. We were confident they could not break into the (computer) system because they would have needed the password since everything is stored on the World Wide Web.”
