Voters will return to the polls Tuesday to cast their votes in the run-off election for the seat of House District 54.
Candidates Randy Easterling and Kevin Ford will be vying for the post, which became vacant last summer after Alex Monsour was sworn in as South Ward Alderman for the city of Vicksburg.
Yazoo County Circuit Clerk Robert Coleman said he anticipates more voters to return to the polls on Nov. 28 since the two remaining candidates have been more visible in the public following the special election earlier this month.
“I think the turnout might be a little better than before,” Coleman said. “The candidates have been around, talking to the citizens more. We are at the finishing line now.”
Coleman also added that precinct issues that were reported before have been ironed out.
“The Mechanicsburg precinct will be open now,” Coleman said. “Voters who vote at the precinct who basically live north of Highway 433 will be voting since they are within District 54. The other voters within that precinct will not be voting since they fall under District 63.”
Coleman said nine precincts are covered under this run-off election, including Mechanicsburg, Little Yazoo, East Bentonia, Satartia, Center Ridge, the Washington Street fire station, Valley, Fugates and Holly Bluff.
However, Coleman said the Washington Street fire station precinct has been temporarily moved to St. Stephen United Methodist Church.
“I encourage voters to get out and practice your right to vote,” Coleman said. “Your vote is your voice.”
