A Yazoo County woman’s previous aggravated assault charges have been upgraded to manslaughter following the death of her husband after a domestic dispute.
Kate Osborne remains in jail on a $50,000 bond with upgraded manslaughter charges following the death of her husband Joseph Keith Osborne last Thursday.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said Joseph Keith Osborne, 48, of Bentonia, died Nov. 16 around 11 p.m. at the University Medical Center in Jackson.
Kate Osborne was first charged with aggravated assault after a domestic dispute with on Oct. 9, said Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department.
“She was allegedly trying to run him over with her car when he jumped on the hood to avoid being struck,” Gann said. “She then pulled out on the highway with him on the hood of her car.”
Gann said Kate Osborne drove for 1,774 feet on Highway 49 with Joseph Keith Osborne on the hood.
“When she turned down a driveway, he fell off,” Gann said.
Kate Osborne was charged with aggravated assault following the incident, but Joseph Keith Osborne did not go to the hospital at first, assuming he wasn’t seriously injured.
“Later that night, he began to feel bad,” Gann said. “Family members started to grow concerned and called an ambulance to take him to Baptist Medical Center Yazoo.”
Gann said Joseph Keith Osborne was later airlifted to University Medical Center.
“He became progressively worse, and we later discovered he did have brain injuries,” Gann said.
Weeks later on Nov. 16, Joseph Keith Osborne died as a result of his injuries.
Gann said Kate Osborne has not been released from jail since the dispute. She was transferred to the Humphreys County jail since the local facility cannot hold female inmates.
