A Rolling Fork police officer was convicted of two counts of gratification of lust in Yazoo County Circuit Court last week.
Samuel Luckett, 40, of Holly Bluff, awaited sentencing as of press time for molesting two juvenile girls in 2015.
“We were pleased with the results because it brought justice for the victims and their family,” said District Attorney Akillie Malone-Oliver. “Luckett is now off the streets and unable to harm any more children.”
Malone-Oliver said she would be seeking for the maximum prison sentence, which would total to 30 years; 15 years per count of gratification of lust.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said Luckett was originally charged with three counts of gratification of lust. But Malone-Oliver said Luckett was found not guilty for one of those charges.
“My investigation began when Luckett was accused of touching his girlfriend’s daughter inappropriately,” Gann said. “We later found out he allegedly was doing the same thing to her sister as well.”
Malone-Oliver said one of the victims, who was 12 years old at the time, first brought the abuse to light after she told a teacher at her school.
“The girl came to school crying, devastated about what was happening,” Malone-Oliver said. “School officials reported it to the parents, and the investigation began at that point.”
