A convicted felon and habitual offender was arrested last week after officers found him with a gun inside his vehicle.
Antwon Bass, of Yazoo City, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Capt. Tilmon Clifton with the Yazoo City Police Department said officers noticed a suspicious vehicle parked near the railroad track at the intersection of Grand Avenue and the Willie Morris Parkway. Bass was the driver inside the vehicle.
“The vehicle had been sitting there for a while,” Clifton said. “When officers approached, they noticed a strong odor of marijuana, which led them to search the vehicle.”
Clifton said a gun was found under the driver’s seat, leading to Bass’ arrest. Bass was convicted of a home burglary in Jackson on Dec. 2, 2012. He also has a lengthy history with local law enforcement.
