Deputies arrested a pair in connection with credit card fraud, adding that some victims may not even know they were scammed yet.
Kevin Grady, 24, and Cherish Cowans, 23, were both charged with four counts of credit card fraud and two counts of identity theft.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said Cowans was employed at Little Caesars Pizza in Yazoo City when the theft first began.
“When people came to pay for their pizza, she was taking a picture and video of their credit card information,” Gann said. “Through our investigation, we also found a ledger with the credit card numbers and names written.”
The investigation led to a search warrant at a home on Jackson Avenue, where many items were purchased with the stolen credit card information, including expensive shoes and clothes.
“They would first purchase things in small amounts so it wouldn’t get noticed,” Gann said. “But then they got greedy and began making larger purchases. Many victims would simply go to their banks and report the charges, but no one was reporting it to us.”
But then a few complaints sparked a deeper investigation, Gann said.
“We found that some victims were unaware that their credit card information had been stolen,” Gann said. “We are looking through the ledger now to make connections to notify many other victims who may be unaware of anything.”
Both Grady and Cowans remained in jail as of press time with a $10,000 bond.
