An unknown suspect remains on the run as investigators continue to piece together what happened in a Monday shooting in Yazoo City.
Police Chief Ron Sampson said dispatchers received a call around 5:45 p.m. from Baptist Medical Center Yazoo that a man was brought in who had been shot.
“Through our investigation, we discovered there had been an altercation on West Second Street,” Sampson said. “We are still piecing together statements from witnesses, but the altercation came from a supposed misidentification between the victim and the suspect.”
Sampson said the suspect pointed a gun at the victim, who was able to talk him into placing the gun down.
“At that point, there was a tussle over the gun,” Sampson said. “The victim was then shot three times in his left hip.”
By the time officers arrived at the local hospital, the victim was being prepared to be airlifted to a Jackson hospital.
“We don’t have the severity of the victim’s wounds as this time, and we were unable to speak with him due to surgeries,” Sampson said. “But this is currently an open investigation as we continue to collect statements.”
No arrests had been made as of press time.
