A 40-year-old Yazoo City man was killed early Monday morning after being struck by a train.
Cedric Cathey died around 1:30 a.m. Monday.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said that Cathy was apparently sitting on a platform when he was hit by the train.
“That platform goes right up to the tracks,” Shivers said. “I haven’t seen the video from the train yet, but from what I understand, he just didn’t move.”
The Canadian National Railroad train’s conductor told investigators that he blew the horn numerous times in effort to warn Cathey that the train was approaching. He was unable to stop the train in time, however.
Friends and family held a balloon release in Cathey’s memory Wednesday evening at the Amtrak station.
