Less than four percent of Yazoo County’s registered voters chose to have a say in Tuesday’s Democratic Primary runoff for U.S. Senate.
David Baria, a longtime state lawmaker and attorney from Bay St. Louis, defeated Howard Sherman, with 59 percent of the vote statewide.
Sherman, a venture capitalist married to actress Sela Ward of Meridian, carried Yazoo County with almost 55 percent of the vote. Sherman received 335 votes to Baria’s 276. Sherman previously led the crowded primary that resulted in the runoff with 281 votes to Baria’s 151.
Baria will face incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Roger Wicker in November.
