A Jackson man led authorities on a short chase following a burglary at a Bentonia business, and he remains in a hospital after he crashed into a tree.
Courtney Jerome Sayles will be charged with business burglary and felony fleeing after he is released from a Jackson hospital.
Bentonia Police Chief Jason Bright said he witnessed Sayles burglarize a Dollar General on Highway 49 in Bentonia last Thursday. Bright was watching the local business due to a number of burglaries in the area.
“He broke into the store by busting the front glass with a large piece of concrete,” Bright said. “Once inside, he stole cigarettes. At that time, I came into the parking lot when a chase began down Highway 49.”
The chase led down a number of roads off of the highway before Sayles crashed into a tree on Pritchard Avenue.
Sayles was taken to a Jackson hospital, but two warrants wait for his arrest pending his release.
