Yazoo County leaders appointed former Chancery Clerk Noreene E. Girard as its new county tax assessor this week.
The Yazoo County Board of Supervisors hired Girard to carry out the term of former tax assessor Beverly Ladner following her retirement last month. Girard will remain in the post until the general election in November.
Following Monday’s county board meeting, Supervisor Jayne Dew said Ladner’s post was a difficult one to fill.
“This position deals with our taxes and our appraisals,” Dew said. “We had to find someone qualified who had the background in taxes and the tax system. We are confident in Girard carrying out those duties until the general election in November.”
There are three candidates vying for the tax assessor post. Independents Susan Jenkins and Linda Brown and Democrat Denise Robertson qualified for the post several months ago.
