Republican Kevin Ford won the runoff election Tuesday for the House District 54 seat, covering Warren and Yazoo counties.
Ford, an insurance company owner, defeated fellow Republican Dr. Randy Easterling, a family physician, by 475 votes. Ford received a total of 1,434 votes to 959 for Easterling.
In Yazoo County, a total of 244 voters turned out Tuesday to cast ballots in the House seat left vacant by Alex Monsour, who resigned to become a Vicksburg alderman.
Within Yazoo County, Ford received 151 votes to Easterling’s 93 votes.
Ford has commented that one of his platforms is improving education, with getting on the House Education Committee as one of his goals.
