For the first time in over 90 years, there will be no Yazoo County fair this season.
Martin McGraw, president of the Yazoo County Fair Association, said that the decision came down to the fact that there was no possible way to put on the kind of quality fair that visitors to Yazoo's fair expect.
The Yazoo County Fair Association released the following statement regarding the cancellation of the 2020 fair:
"The Yazoo County Fair Association knows there are many people disappointed by the decision to cancel the fair. We are also disappointed, and we want everyone to know that this decision was extremely difficult.
The Fair Association wants all of our guests to have the most enjoyable time at the fair that we have all come to know and love. Under the current conditions and restrictions, this wasn't possible.
Many sponsors of county fairs and festivals operate on a year-to-year basis and depend on each year's success to be able to hold the event the following year. For that reason, the U.S. House of Representatives has introduced HB-7883 to help these sponsors and organizations continue their events. If you enjoy attending these events, please write or call your representatives and ask for their support of HB-7883.
We hope that people will understand and respect this decision and know that plans are already under way to make the 2021 Yazoo County Fair the best one ever.
And we might have a few surprises to announce before then."
