Manchester Academy continued the quest for a second straight state title with another decisive victory Friday night.
Mavericks quarterback Jon Riley Poe had six carries for 175 yards and three touchdowns and completed 3-of-4 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown in a 54-16 win over Delta Streets. His defensive effort was just as impressive with 11 tackles and an interception.
Parks Poe had six carries for 141 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.
Michael Williams had five carries for 41 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Dylan Dendy added three carries for 10 yards, Ty Love had two for 17, and Connor Stevens had two for four yards.
The Mavericks held a 24-8 lead at halftime.
Jon Riley Poe followed one of his rushing touchdowns with a keeper for the two-point conversion to get MA a 38-8 lead in the third quarter.
"This was a hard fought win over a much improved Delta Streets team," said Mavericks head coach Bryan Dendy.
The Mavericks defense held strong against a Delta Streets team that had plenty of speed.
Parks Poe had seven tackles for the Mavericks.
Tyler Johnson had six tackles.
Dylan Dendy had five tackles and a fumble recovery.
Connor Stevens had a tackle and an interception.
Tyler Bardwell had five tackles, Staten Greenlee had three, Mills Paul had two, and Michael Williams, Tres Paul and Yash Sharma had one each.
The road gets tougher this week as No. 3-ranked undefeated Humphreys Academy comes to town.
"Humphreys is a well-coached team that we have a ton of respect for," Coach Dendy said. "They are 6-0, and they will be ready to play."
Last week the Rebels defeated Lee Academy 52-18.
