The long awaited construction of the District 3 Volunteer fire station began last week.
Jack Willingham, Yazoo County’s Emergency Management director, said the frame of the volunteer fire station has been completed, adding that the project began last Wednesday.
“The building itself will be completed in a few weeks,” Willingham said. “That will allow us to at least have a place to put the fire truck. We will still have to construct the office space.”
The new station will be located near the county barn off of Old Benton Road.
The new fire station will allow residents within a five driving mile radius to receive a better fire rating and lower insurance rates.
