The Mayor and Board of Aldermen will hold a special called meeting Thursday which includes an order to hire a police chief.
This week the board replaced interim chief Jay Winstead with interim chief Thaddeus Jones with Ward 3 Alderman Sir Johnathan Rucker voting against the change and Ward 4 Alderwoman Elizabeth Thomas abstaining.
Rucker told The Yazoo Herald on Tuesday that he thought Winstead was doing a good job and was only denied the he opportunity to serve as chief because he was independent and wouldn't be micromanaged by the board.
Thomas told The Herald this week that she believes she was mislead about Winstead's performance in an effort to influence her vote.
Mayor Diane Delaware, Ward 1 Alderman Ron Johnson, and Ward 2 Alderman Andre Lloyd, who is a former Yazoo City police chief, voted to name Jones as interim chief this week. Jones was serving as assistant administrator prior to being named interim chief.
