A suspect fleeing from a Marion County incident was arrested in Yazoo County this week after a two-day search from local and surrounding law enforcement agencies.
Trevor Kennterrri Hoskins was charged with murder after he was apprehended by authorities in the Graball Freerun area last Sunday afternoon.
Sheriff Jeremy McCoy said Hoskins was originally wanted for domestic violence, aggravated assault, following an incident in Marion County. However, the female victim later died because of the incident, upgrading Hoskins’ charge to murder.
“The incident occurred in Marion County, and I don’t know what brought him to Yazoo County,” McCoy said. “They started pinging his phone, and it started pinging in Yazoo County, so we knew he was in the area.”
McCoy said his department then received a call about an erratic driver in the Pepper Wilson Road area. Turns out, the driver was Hoskins.
“Once the deputies saw him, he fled the scene on foot,” McCoy said. “After running the vehicle’s tag, we made the connection that it was him.”
At first, McCoy said his department reached out to the Madison Police Department and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department for assistance with their K-9 units.
“The K-9 units did some good work, but were not able to find him,” McCoy said. “We had reason to believe that someone picked him up and dropped him off in the Benton area.”
McCoy said Hoskins then made a telephone call from a Benton business, sparking deputies to canvas the area.
“He was later spotted on Highway 16, just west of Harris Road,” McCoy said. “The K-9 units deployed again, but the rain seemed to have washed away the track.”
Contract Drone Service, from Madison, then joined the search to assist with drone efforts. But it was also the community that assisted greatly with the search, McCoy said.
“Members of the Graball Freerun community started calling, and one resident even messaged me on Facebook,” McCoy said. “That was when we sent our deputies out to the area. The suspect had been stopping and using people’s phones in the Honeycutt area. We believe he was trying to get to a hotel where his brother was allegedly going to pick him up.”
But thanks to the community, the drone service and law enforcement, Hoskins was spotted and apprehended in a field in the Graball Freerun area.
“He told us he had been on foot, walking the whole time,” McCoy said. “This incident was definitely one for the books.”
