The Benton Academy Raiders opened the 2025 Football season with a different look from last season.
A new coach roams the sidelines this season for the Raiders as Bryan Dendy returns to Benton Academy after a season at Humphreys Academy and several successful seasons prior to his stint at HA at Manchester Academy.

Supervisor surprised to see county property listed in delinquent tax notice

Supervisor Lee Moore said he was surprised to find the property for the upcoming Dover Volunteer Fire Department included in the delinquent tax notice.
“The property for the Dover Fire Department was in the tax sale paper,” Moore said, referring to the published notice in The Yazoo Herald.

Entergy is going to build a new natural gas-fired generating plant for Amazon’s Canton Data Centers. Where? Not in my backyard, say people with nice backyards. So Entergy plans to hide the plant where you can’t “smell it, hear it, or see it.” The data center capital of the world is Virginia.

Two dead following Christmas Eve shooting

Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders said she received a call at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday in regard to a shooting incident on the 300 block of East Market Street.

Ice skating will be possible in Yazoo City next month

Ice skating in the Mississippi Delta? The idea sounds a little unbelievable.
But thanks to the Yazoo County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the unbelievable will become a reality next month in Yazoo City. The Yazoo Yuletide Festival will be held near the recently unveiled wall mural on Mound Street on December 2-4.

Lady Raiders crowned the MAIS Class 2A North State Champions

Benton Academy won four straight games to capture the 2A North State title and advance for a chance to compete for a state title.
The Lady Raiders secured the title with a 12-2 win over Canton Academy Monday.
