A second juvenile has been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of 65-year-old Sylvester Young.
Kalveonte Moore, 15, was charged with capital murder and home invasion Wednesday afternoon. The arrest was made after a joint investigation by the Yazoo City Police Department and the Yazoo County Sheriff's Department.
The first suspect, Tyler Fleming, also 15, was earlier charged with capital murder after being arrested by agents from the Yazoo City Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
“It is a direct result of the victim’s family and witnesses working with the law enforcement entities in this case that an arrest was made,” Police Chief Jay Winstead said. “Instead of seeking retribution or street justice, the family wanted true justice to prevail. I thank them for that and for the opportunity to work with them. This is how it’s supposed to be done. We can’t serve you in every capacity if we don’t work hand in hand with each other. I pray for the victim’s family and for the people who will be brought to justice in every case we pursue.”
Winstead said officers were first dispatched to the Baptist emergency room in response to a gunshot victim around 8 p.m. Tuesday. The victim was later identified as Young, who investigators believe was shot multiple times inside his home on Willie Brown Street.
