Yazoo County head coach Robert Dobbs knew the matchup with the Velma Jackson Falcons was going to be a tough, physical battle.
What he didn’t foresee happening, however, was the Falcons man-handling his Panthers to the tune of a 43-6 defeat.
The visiting Falcons had their way with the Panthers all night long, controlling the game from the opening kickoff.
Velma Jackson stormed out to an 18-0 lead before the Panthers knew what hit them. The Falcons added 13 more points in the second quarter with the Panthers avoiding being shut out for the half thanks to a 75-yard kickoff return by Donavin Green.
Velma held a 31-6 lead at halftime.
The Falcons added 13 more points in the third quarter and cruised the rest of the way to the win.
The Panther offense struggled mightily all night and managed only 143 yards of total offense (79 rushing, 64 passing).
Green led the way with eight carries for 52 yards on the ground and completed 5-of-14 passes for 44 yards.
Austin Haymer caught one pass for 25 yards.
The defense was led by Cortavius Rogers with eight tackles followed by Clifton Young with five. Green also had three tackles and an interception.
Next up for the Panthers is their biggest rival, the Yazoo City Indians in the battle for the Y-Team trophy, with the Indians looking for back-to-back series wins.
