The Benton Academy Lady Raiders trailed Canton Academy 24-20 heading into the fourth quarter last week when Brynn Blackstock came to the rescue.
The freshman guard scored 16 fourth quarter points, including three three-pointers to rally the Lady Raiders to a 39-34 victory.
Blackstock finished the game with a game-high 21 points.
Ella McCain chipped in with eight, Gracey Manor had six, and Sarah Jackson and Kaye Purvis both had two.
“I’ve been extremely pleased with the effort from my girls. We are playing hard,” said first-year head coach Chad Smith. “We are just now playing ourselves into basketball shape. Offensively we just have to learn all of our stuff so that we don’t have to think so much. That would allow us to play a little more freely. Overall I’m pleased with the girls and I just want them to improve on something everyday.”
Benton hits the road this week for three games against Central Holmes (Tuesday), Winona (Thursday), and Indianola (Friday).
