Both the Yazoo City Indians and Yazoo County Lady Panthers had games on their home floors last week with a chance to extend their respective seasons.
With their home crowds behind them, both teams were able to advance as the Indians posted a 46-30 victory over the Pontotoc Warriors, and the Lady Panthers secured a 51-37 victory over the North Panola Lady Cougars.
Yazoo City advances to the quarterfinals Wednesday against New Hope for a 7 p.m. game to be played at Mississippi Valley State University.
Yazoo County travels to Itawamba Community College Friday for a 4 p.m. game against defending 3A state champion Booneville.
Against Pontotoc, the Indians were led in scoring by Tamarion Hoover and Damarion Winston with 13 and 10 points respectively.
Daveon Henry and Roosevelt Pittman each scored six, Xaquarius Thomas had four, Jacolby Little had three, and Demond Collum and Caleb Crozier rounded out the scoring with two apiece.
Khalee Harrison led all scorers with a game-high 21 points in the Lady Panthers victory over North Panola.
Jakayla Washington joined her in double figures with 11, followed by Ankaysha Henderson with eight, Jayla Snow with six, and Kamillia Jones with five.
