The Yazoo County Lady Panthers split a pair of contests in the McAdams Christmas Tournament, falling to Louisville, 61-20 before bouncing back to defeat Choctaw County in overtime, 57-56.
Lady Panther head coach Christine Demus was very pleased with the grit and determination her Lady Panthers displayed in pulling out the overtime win.
“That game presented many highs and lows and we put ourselves in a tough spot by making questionable plays on both ends of the court, but I’m appreciative of the ability to close out such a close one,” said Demus.
London Love led a trio of double figure scorers for the Lady Panthers with 16 points. Kamilia Jones added 14 and Jakayla Washington had 10.
Other scorers were Khalee Harrison and Gabby McCrary with six apiece and Jamariah Barton with five.
Against Louisville, Washington led all scorers with seven, followed by Love with five and Jones, Harrison, Jaliya Scott, and Aah’Niya Smith with two points apiece.
YCHS (6-10) hosts Winona Friday in their district opener.
Said Demus: “We have to clean up a few things offensively and defensively but I believe we’ll do a better job executing during the second half of the season.”
