The Yazoo County Panthers picked up their first win of the season over the holiday break, defeating the Ethel Tigers 60-54 in the McAdams Christmas Tournament.
The Panthers dropped game one of the two-day event to Louisville, 88-51 before posting the six-point win over Ethel.
Leading the way was Chris Harris with 16 points, followed by Zi’Quarrious Demus and Mike Brown with 10 apiece. Donavin Green chipped in with nine, Bray Jones had eight, Ke’Zyron Young, Rod Knight and Jaylan Shaffer each had two and Cameron Williams had one.
Said Panther head coach Bryce Randall, “I was extremely proud of the team’s effort. We knew there was going to be some adversity at the beginning of the season with starting over and teaching the guys some fundamentals and how to play since they haven’t been taught that in the past. They’ve had to block out some outside noise, but they’ve stayed bought in the entire time and they know good things are ahead. This team is growing up and getting more self confidence and I am excited to see where this win takes us into district.”
The Panthers open district play this Friday when they host the Winona Tigers.
