Not only did the Yazoo County Lady Panthers avoid a season sweep by their rival Yazoo City with a 40-36 win last week, they snapped a 9-game Lady Indian win streak in the process.
The Lady Panthers led 9-8 after the first quarter of play and increased their lead to 16-12 at the half.
Yazoo County went on a 10-7 third quarter run to take a 26-19 heading into the fourth quarter.
YCHS led by as many as 10 points several times in the final frame but the Lady Indians kept pushing back.
With less than a minute to play it was a two possession game, but the Lady Indians could n’t get over the hump.
Jakayla Washington paced Yazoo County with 12 points followed by LaDaisha Taylor with nine, Jayla Snow with eight, Kamillia Jones with five, and Ankaysha Henderson, Jamariah Barton and London Love each with two.
Scorers for Yazoo City were E’kemii Johnson with 19, Jermya Porter with six, Lakyra Bankhead with five, and Sincere Fleming and I’liciona White with three apiece.
