Although North Sunflower Academy was able to put some points on the board against Manchester, the Mavericks delivered another decisive victory Friday to improve to 2-0.
Mavericks quarterback Jon Riley Poe completed all six of his passes for 183 yards and five touchdowns in the 74-26 win. He also had six carries for 151 yards and a touchdown.
Tres Paul caught two passes for 99 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Dylan Dendy had two receptions for 42 yards and two touchdowns.
Staten Greenlee had one catch for a 42-yard score.
“We were really pleased the way our offense came out and executed,” said Mavericks head coach Bryan Dendy.
MA’s running game was equally effective.
Parks Poe had six carries for 151 yards and three touchdowns.
Michael Williams racked up 175 yards and scored a touchdown with nine carries.
Coach Dendy said the offensive line deserves a lot of credit for dominating up front.
“Great job by our offensive line opening up holes for our backs,” he said.
Tyler Johnson led the defense with seven tackles and two fumble recoveries.
Rashad Bass had an interception.
Tyler Bardwell had six tackles.
Jon Riley Poe had five tackles and a fumble recovery.
Parks Poe had four tackles.
Mills Paul, Connor Stevens and Tres Paul each had three tackles.
Dylan Dendy had two tackles, and Ty Walton had one.
“Our defense really flew around to the football,” Coach Dendy said.
This week the Mavericks travel to Kemper Academy. The Rams are 0-2 after a 48-0 loss to Sharkey Issaquena in week one and a 22-20 loss to Prentiss Christian last week.
