A Vaughan man is behind bars for allegedly shooting his girlfriend several times in the back of the head Sunday.
Anthony Simmons was charged with murder after he was arrested by deputies near Walker Road in the Vaughan community Sunday around 8 p.m.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff's Department, said victim Alisha Lee was discovered dead with several gunshot wounds to her head at Simmons' home.
"We received a call stating that Alisha Lee had been shot, and the caller identified Simmons as the shooter," Gann said. "Once deputies arrived at the scene, they found Simmons down the road, talking to neighbors."
Gann said Simmons and the victim had been in an unstable relationship that had a history of domestic violence between the two.
The victim was originally from Canton and was visiting Simmons' home at the time of the murder.
"The victim was found lying in the bed, and she was shot four times in the back of the head," Gann said.
Gann added that neighbors said Simmons admitted to shooting Lee and even asked the neighbors to kill him.
"It appears he was heavily under the influence," Gann said. "He remains in jail under suicide watch."
