As a result of the gas leak and pipe rupture in the Satartia area last February, Denbury Enterprises is purchasing a mass communication system for Yazoo County.
"Denbury has purchased a mass communication software system so that officials can be better notified in situations like we experienced," said emergency management director Jack Willingham, during the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors meeting Monday.
Rave Mobile Safety will be purchased for the county by Denbury for $28,500, and the company will cover renewal costs for five years. After the five years, the county will assume the annual $5,000 fee with no contract required.
Denbury owned the 24-inch pressurized pipe that ruptured near Sataria in February. The rupture was believed to have been caused by heavy rainfall and flooding in the area, with the ground caving in around the pipe. The pipe contained carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide.
More than 300 people were evacuated, and about 46 received medical treatment, including a deputy responding to the emergency.
