A juvenile has been arrested in connection with the recent vandalism and mischief at the Yazoo Country Club. The investigation continues to determine if the suspect was involved with other incidents at the local country club and a Bovina country club.
With about $45,000 worth of reported damage, the 16-year-old juvenile is charged with felony malicious mischief.
Capt. William Nevels, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the juvenile was arrested last Friday at the Relax Inn, where he and his parents are living at the moment.
“The juvenile was staying in Vicksburg, and we tried to catch up with him at the Relax Inn,” Nevels said. “He eventually returned to the Yazoo City motel, where we arrested him.”
The country club was struck a couple of weeks ago, which resulted in many golf carts destroyed, with some left in ditches and one even submerged in the club’s pond.
Nevels said the juvenile suspect in custody was identified by witnesses. And it is believed he was not alone.
“He had at least three or four additional juveniles with him who we are still in the process of identifying,” Nevels said.
The investigation also continues to determine if the suspect was involved with the second incident reported at the Yazoo Country Club. Five days after the incident in which the suspect is charged with, suspects gained entry onto the club property by ramming a golf cart through a portion of the wooden fence that surrounds the property.
A side door was kicked in, and several bottles of liquor, about $50 worth of candy and a handful of Yazoo Country Club hats were reported stolen. After destroying a lock to the dining and bar area, the suspects then stole about 15 cases of beer.
A golf cart was also driven into a ditch, where the suspects left a mountain of beer cans.
And investigators are also trying to determine if the juvenile was involved in a similar incident at the Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina.
Both the Yazoo and Bovina country clubs were struck much in the same manner. In Bovina, six golf carts were damaged or destroyed with three being submerged into one of the lakes on the property.
