Legislators fulfilled the request of Yazoo County leaders in securing $700,000 to be used for a paving project at the local industrial park.
The Yazoo County Board of Supervisors recently gave engineer Wayne Morrison permission to continue tying up the loose ends in the project that is slated to begin in a few weeks. Rialto, Levee and River Roads are included within the hot mix paving and striping project. The total length of the project is about two miles worth of roadway.
“All the money arrives to us thanks to the Legislation,” Morrison said. “We thank Sen. Briggs Hopson for his involvement in this project. He was very instrumental in assisting us with our request, securing us the money.”
The county received four bids in connection with the paving project. The contract was awarded to the lowest bidder, AJ Construction from Madison, for about $609,000.
The notice to proceed is estimated to be finalized in two weeks, with the project taking about six weeks to complete, pending the weather.
