A child was struck by a bullet after shots were fired into her home early Sunday morning.
Captain William Nevels, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the shooting occurred around 3 a.m. on North Cherry Street.
“Shots rang out in the streets with several gunshots entering into a home,” Nevels said. “An eight-year-old girl was shot in the arm. Everyone inside is considered victims because they were in the home when the shooting happened, but the child was the only gunshot victim.”
The child was taken the local emergency room and was soon taken to a Jackson hospital for medical treatment.
No arrests had been made as of press time.
“We have several people of interest, and we anticipate forthcoming arrests,” Nevels said.
Nevels added that several bullet shell casings were recovered at the scene.
Anyone with any information in connection with the shooting is urged to call the criminal investigation division at the YCPD at 746-1131.
