A suspect remains behind bars in the same jail he allegedly tried to break into in an effort to sneak in contraband.
Austin Richardson, 18, was charged with attempting to introduce contraband into a jail facility, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of schedule II narcotics with intent to distribute.
Terry Gann, chief investigator with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said Richardson was caught in the act of attempting to sneak in contraband at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility.
“He cut a hole in the fence and entered the grounds,” Gann said. “But he was shortly apprehended while fleeing the scene.”
While fleeing, Gann said deputies watched Richardson on infrared vision tossing items to the ground. Those items were quickly recovered by deputies, leading to drug charges. As of press time, Richardson remained in the local county jail.
